Private secretary appointed to P.M.
PA Wellington Mr Ken Richardson, former assistant to the High Commissioner in London, has been appointed principal private secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr Lange. Mr Richardson, aged 52, would succeed Mr Doug Kerr who retires this week, said the chairman of the State Services Commission, Dr Mervyn Probine. Mr Richardson joined the Public Service in 1958 and has worked as private secretary to former Ministers, Messrs Frank Gill, Allan Highet, and Brian Talboys. He has served at two New Zealand overseas missions — as Attache (Immi-
gration) at the New Zealand Embassy at The Hague from 1968-73 and as Assistant to the High Commissioner in London from 198183. •On his return to New Zealand in early 1984, Mr Richardson was appointed Senior Private Secretary to the then Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon. Mr Kerr leaves the Public Service after 42 years working in various departments. He joined the Prime Minister’s Department in 1976 and was appointed principal private secretary to Sir Robert early last year. He has worked with Mr Lange since he took office in July.
