Cabriolet popular
The Jaguar XJ-S Cabriolet is so popular that Aston Martin Tickford’s Special Vehicle Centre, geared to produce only 20 to 30 of the “soft-tops” each week, cannot meet consumer demand. Accordingly, Jaguar is taking over production of the car itself at its Browns Lane, Coventry, factory. This particular model has been available on customer order only and Aston Martin Tickford has found that it can no longer cope with the orders.
Jaguar called in Aston Martin Tickford in 1981 to help with the design of the soft-top section of the Cabriolet and when the task was completed Tickford went on to test the car and obtain Type Approval before limited production started. Now the demand is such that production line techniques are required and Tickford is not equipped to undertake work of that nature.
Consequently, production of the soft-top section of the Cabriolet has been moved to the main Jaguar factory. ■
