C.o.m. plant
Australia’s Impala Securities, Ltd, has launched a coaloil mixture demonstration plant in South Korea’s port of Lincheon, under a joint venture agreement with a listed South Korean company, Kohap. The plant is capable of producing about 40,000 tonnes of c.o.m. a year and initial production will go to Kohap’s textile division at Anyang, in the industrial region of Seoul. C.o.m- is a term applied to a class of fuels described as a suspension of from 30 to 50 per cent pulverised coal by weight with fuel oil and prepared with or without water. The theory is that the oil can be extended by diluting it with the coal, which is much cheaper.
