Easy for for Lord Louie
Lord Louie made a successful first appearance for the season in the McLachlan’s Shoe Store pace. He took the lead with 1900 m to run, slowed the pace for a time, and then sprinted hard over the final 400 m to win untested by almost three lengths. Earl Don, handy all the way, got up to shade Fawlty Towers for second. Keepsake, well back and badly placed until late, flashed up for fourth, a nose in front of Quick George, with Toris and Lew Foy, last at the 700 m, at the head of the others.
