Yacht manager named

PA Auckland The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has named Jim Davern as manager of the Admiral’s Cup team to compete at Cowes, Isle of Wight, next year. Mr Davern, who pioneered offshore racing in New Zealand a quarter of a century ago at the helm of the Stewart 34 Princess, learned the art of ocean racing on board Fidelis in the record-breaking runs to

Noumea and Fiji. Rob Green, the yacht squadron commodore, will be team director. “Jim (Davern) has been a very competitive yachtsman and has an extensive knowledge of the offshore racing scene,” said Mr Green. “He is prepared to put in the time and we believe he is the best man for the job.” Mr Davern ,is confident New Zealand will win the Admiral’s Cup.
