Mr Minto to be recharged
PA Auckland The High Court has overturned a District Court ruling dismissing an obstruction charge against John Minto, national organiser of the anti-apartheid group, Hart.
Mr Minto was cleared last September of a charge of obstructing a constable in tlje execution of his duty. The charge arose from a protest in January, 1983, against the presence of a South African tennis player at a Stanley Street tournament.
The Auckland District Court had heard that a Solice officer seized a loudailer used by Mr Minto. A tug-of-war had ensued. Judge Callander dismissed the charge against Minto, but the police appealed against the decision. In a decision released to the police yesterday,, Mr
Justice Thorp overturned Judge Callander’s ruling and said the case would be reheard in the District Court at Auckland.
Mr Minto said last evening that he would ’ appeal against the High Court decision.
