$800 for Rape Crisis centre
PA Wellington The Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs Hercus, has announced a Government grant of ?8000 to the Dunedin Rape Crisis centre. “Rape Crisis Dunedin, like Rape Crisis centres elsewhere, run a valuable and much needed counselling service for victims of rape and sexual abuse,” ws Hercus said.
“Last year, the centre assisted more than 200 women both in face-to-face counselling and telephone support” ’ ii Mrs Hercus said that the centre was staffed mainly by volunteers. Until recently a full-time position was funded under the Labour Department’s Voluntary Organisation Training Programme, but this had now stopped. “The grant will help the centre to meet its running costs and continue providing a very valuable local service,” Mrs Hercus said. i The grant comes from funds available to help organisations which make a-j significant contribution to the achievement of com-q munity welfare objectives and are experiencing financial difficulty.
