Second prize in contest
A young Christchurch violinist has won second place in the 1984 Shell Youth Orchestra Scholarship contest. Lisa Egen, aged 16, of Hillmorton, won a silver medal and musicaTbooks to the value of ?400.
The first place went to Timothy Young, a viola
player, of Auckland, who won a gold medal and tuition with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Training Orchestra for three years. Steven Abrahall, a Lower Hutt bass player, was placed third, winning a bronze medal and books worth $l5O.
Lisa Egen is a pupil of Christchurch Girls’ High School where she is studying for University Entrance. She has played in several chamber music groups and school orchestras. This is her second year in the New Zealand Youth Orchestra. She is also a member of the Christchurch Youth Orchestra where she plays first violin. She wants to follow a musical career. The scholarship is sponsored by Shell Oil New Zealand. The winner of the scholarship was announced during the National Youth Orchestra’s final concert of its North Island tour in Wellington last week-end.
