Cheques not delivered
NZPA-AP Chicago A cab driver hired to deliver a strongbox containing state pay cheques totalling SUS 3 million (SNZ6M) took the box home with him for the week-end because he was not sure where to deliver it, the police said. The 2500 pay cheques were missing for more than 24 hours until the police found Joseph Hinton’s parked taxi and the box in the trunk. No charges will be filed against Mr Hinton, aged 54, the police said. Mr Hinton told the police that he had gone to a family reunion in Alabama at the week-end and had planned to get in touch with officials about the box when he returned.
