Murderer goes berserk in jail
NZPA-AAP Sydney One prisoner died and two others were wounded when a convicted murderer “went berserk” with a kitchen ■knife in Silverwater Jail, western Sydney yesterday, the police said. A spokesman said an argument developed into a jrawl when the man armed himself with the knife about 9.30 a.m. The dead man was aged 33 and had been serving a 10-year sentence for armed robbery.
The police said the two other inmates stabbed in the melee were admitted to Westmead Hospital. One of them, a 33-year-old prisoner jailed for 18 months on breaking and entering and stealing charges, underwent surgery for a wound in the lower back and was in a serious condition. The other injured man, a double murderer aged 56. who was serving life, was in a satisfactory condition with stab wounds to his right arm.
