Lord Louie has run at trials
Lord Louie, preparing for next month’s D.B. Superstar Series for four-year-olds at the New Brighton meeting, finished second in the Cl and faster pace at the Rangiora trials yesterday. The Lordship gelding settled last in a five-horse line-up, then tangled for a few strides at the 1700 m. He soon recovered but was not asked to lengthen out until the straight, running on to be a length from the pacemaking Adioo Omahae at the finish. Adioo Omahae, a winner at last Wednesday’s Addington trials, again indicated he is forward to resume by winning in 3min 33.2 s (2600 m sprinting over his last 800 m in 59s and last 400 m in 30s.
Lord Louie was timed over his last 800 m in 58.45, and his closing 400 m in 30.15. Four Leaf, a winner and twice placed in six starts last term, led throughout to beat Black Soil by a head and Schell Cree (which broke 50m out) in the heat for Cl and faster trotters in a slow 3min 41.95, the closing 400 m in 31s. Castle Prince finished boldly late to win the CO pace in 3min 35s from Scottish Pine and Misty Bank, while Texaco (3min 41.75) was successful over Danny Cord and Gamalee in the CO trot. Seven pacers and one trotter bettered the qualifying standards in cool conditions. Pacers to qualify over 2400 m were: Silk Star (3min 14.35), Natty Nada (3min 14.55), Andronicus (3min 14.65), Plover (3min 14.75), My Locality (3min 14.85), and Some Joy and Uncle Rob (3min 14.95). Wychingham Knight, a winner as a pacer last term, recorded a useful solo performance to qualify as a trotter. He recovered after a break after 200 m to trot solidly for the rest of the heat, bettering the qualifying time by 0.4 s when recording 3min 24.65.
