Two issues make debuts

Two issues, Baker Group and Leyland Growth, made their debuts on a firm, moderately active New Zealand sharemarket yesterday. Baker, an engineering and property group, traded quietly between 160 c and 170 c, closing at the higher price, but there was no public issue for the 50c shares carrying a premium of 30c. Leyland Growth’s 50c shares sold 5c below the issue price at 70c. Leyland Growth was set up by Leyland Investments as an equity investment company. The Barclays industrial index rose a further 11.49 points to 1250.00, putting its gains for the last five sessions at 66.29 points. Teltherm lost 20c of Tuesday’s 60c gain, and New Zealand Equities, formerly Farrier-Waimak, but now an investment company, dropped 65c. Carter Holt jumped 14c and Aurora Group, facing a possible take-over by Feltex, gained 20c.
