Women’s affairs
Sir,—N.O.W. applauds the appointment of two outstanding Christchurch women to the Consultative Group on Women’s Af-
fairs. Rosemary Novitz has handled four jobs concurrently with skill and ability, and never an unkind word. She is an extremely competent, loving mother, wife and homemaker, and sociologist, but in addition she has devoted thousands of hours to unpaid community work — peace, social justice and research work for women. Louisa Crawley, similarly, has thousands of hours of loving care for her Samoan community, and experience as a city councillor to add to Erofessional skills in her broadlyased paid job. However, N.O.W. is extremely concerned that neither woman Minister is on the policy committee of Cabinet, or the development and marketing committee. Moreover, the proportion of women proposed for the summit meeting in. no way reflects women’s economic and social contribution to our country's development. This highlights the need for an effective Ministry of Women’s Affairs. — Yours, etc., BETTY ROBERTS, Co-ordinator, N.0.W., Christchurch. August 13, 1984.
