Comedian’s vow
NZPA staff correspondent London The comedian, Ernie Wise, is determined that the death two months ago of his long-time partner, Eric Morecambe, will not keep him from performing. “I have got over the initial shock of Eric’s death and now I realise that I have to make my way as a solo artist. It is a tremend-
ous challenge,” Wise told London’s “Evening Standard” newspaper. First up for the 58-year-old comedian could be a situation comedy television series. Thames Television is searching for a script to suit him. Wise, however, is reluctant to give up his career as a song and dance man. “I have spent 50 years establishing myself and variety is still my first love,” he said. He is determined that after 43 years with Morecambe there will be no new partner. “They will never replace Eric,” he said.
