Boy George went berserk, says 16-year-old girl
NZPA-AAP London A teenaged girl pop fan has accused superstar singer, Boy George, of punching her on the nose. Alison English, aged 16, claimed that Boy George went berserk in the street after she called him a “fat poof.” Yesterday’s “Sun” carried the story on its front page with a friend’s photograph of stunned Alison lying on the pavement Rupert Murdoch’s popular tabloid said that several of her friends backed Alison’s allegations that she was punched square in the face — leaving her semi-con-scious with blood pouring from her nose. Onlookers said that Boy George then had to be dragged away by his chauffeur, still screaming. Trouble flared when the pop idol, lead singer of the group Culture Club, arrived at the EMI recording studios in north London. Alison and seven other girls were waiting outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the Duran Duran singer, Simon Le Bon. The girls said that Boy George spotted one of his record promotion posters tom up in the gutter and accused them of being responsible. One girl said, “He was furious with rage and said we were stupid for following Duran Duran. He said
the group were stupid bastards.” Then Boy George is said to have yelled that he had more chance of getting into bed with Simon Le Bon than any of them — and Alison called him a “fat poof.” Alison said, “He was as mad as hell and terribly rough. “He screamed into my face that I was a ‘childish little girl’ and punched me on the nose.”
However, Boy George said, “I have never witnessed such behaviour, but it is a complete fabrication to suggest that I hit anybody. The last violent thing I did was to bleach my hair.” • Phillip Schofield interviewed Boy George in Sydney, before one of Culture Club’s 10 Australian concerts, and the interview will be screened on Two on Wednesday next week.
