Bomb threat at trial

NZPA-AP Los Angeles The Judge in the John De Lorean cocaine trafficking trial ordered the court house evacuated yesterday after a court clerk received a telephoned bomb threat from a man who demanded legalisation of marijuana and cocaine.

No bomb was found, and the evacuation ended about an hour after it had began.About 1500 people, including the De Lorean jury and prisoners awaiting court appearances, were ushered out of the downtown court house while the police and Federal authorities searched the building.

The evacuation was triggered by a call that came into a court house clerk at about 9.15 a.m. (local time). “The caller asked, ‘ls this the Federal court house?’ and the clerk replied ‘Yes,’ ” Police Officer Sergio Diaz said.

“The caller then said, ‘Because you won’t legalise marijuana and cocaine, a bomb will go off in two hours.’ ”
