Violence at concert

PA Palmerston North A man was stabbed in the back when violence erupted during a rock concert at Palmerston North’s Regent Theatre on Tuesday evening. The British heavy metal band, Motorhead, were playing to a crowd of about 250 at a concert labelled by the theatre’s manager, Mr Vai Page, as a most disgusting display of public behaviour. The police said that the man, aged 24, was standing in a crowd in front of the stage when he was struck from behind. He made his way out of the theatre be-

fore collapsing near the entrance. He was taken to Palmerston North Hospital where he was treated -and discharged. A police spokesman said that the attack appeared to be unprovoked, and that no arrest had been made. Mr Page said that the violence was not restricted to the stabbing incident. Fights continued throughout the concert. One youth stopped was carrying a canvas bag filled with stones, padlocks, and heavy batteries. Damage to the theatre was extensive.
