Individual freedom

Sir, — Varian J. Wilson’s letters reflects an eccentric blend of salty experience and unfortunate prejuidce. I am all for eccentricity. However, lest any readers do not recall previous extensive rebuttals of his invective and erroneous claims about homosexuals, I ask them to consider the following alternative viewpoints. Many homosexuals live happy, productive, fulfilling and rewarding lives, although some unhappiness seems entirely justifiable in the face of the reactions from some sectors of our society. Homosexual law reform has absolutely nothing to do with trading in “the bodies of children.” Any link between male homosexuality and female prostitution is preposterous. Child molestation is predominantly a heterosexual phenomenon. Homosexuals make up a significantly sized minority and fully deserve political recognition, assuming democracy has any meaning at all in our society. All these points are easily proved. An open mind and a tolerant attitude are the only prerequisites. — Yours, etc., E. R. E. WILSON. July 17, 1984.
