African National Congress

Sir, — Over recent years bombings have occurred in South Africa resulting in the deaths of innocent persons and passers-by, the majority being black. We do not have to prove the African National Congress guilty — the A.N.C. publicly claims responsibility. The A.N.C. is the South African connection of “terrorist international” It has informal links with the P.L.O. and the I.R.A. and uses much the same tactics. We have no place in New Zealand for such organisations and it must come as a surprise to many responsible people to see a meeting for this terrorist organisation being chaired by the Mayoress of Christchurch. We have no interest in attending such a meeting and listening to Marxist-inspired propaganda, much of it directed at denying New Zealanders their freedom of choice. However, as we believe in freedom of speech and of association we have no intention of disrupting this farce. — Yours, etc., ELIZABETH SUTHERLAND, National organiser, S.P-.1.R. July 18, 1984.
