No rise in wool testing charges
PA Wellington Wool testing charges will remain the same for the fourth successive year, says the New Zealand Wool Testing Authority. “We have been able to hold our charges because of improved efficiency and increased throughput,” said the authority’s general manager, Mr Stephen Fookes. “Taking inflation into account, our levels would actually represent a reduction of indirect costs to woolgrowers.” A big factor inr holding charges has been the introduction this season of centralised wool auction centres and the greater frequency of sales. “Because more selling opportunities are now available, the periods of peak demand will be reduced,” Mr Fookes said. The new standard for the colour measurement of wool will take effect next week. Mr Fookes said that the authority had reduced colour test charges from $l7 to $5. “We are subsidising its introduction to encourage widespread use of our new service,” Mr Fookes said. “Farmers may find that the colour test increases auction returns because it takes the guesswork out of price setting.”
