Jedi buys TV firm
PA Wellington The assets of the television and rental company, Sanyo Rentals, Ltd, are to be sold to Jedi Investments, Ltd. The sale was announced yesterday by the directors of Autocrat Sanyo Holdings (NZ), Ltd and Jedi Investments, an investment company. Jedi is an equal joint venture by Chase Corporation, Ltd, and Equiticorp Holdings, Ltd. Sanyo Rentals will be acquired for cash.
The managing director of Autocrat Sanyo, Mr R. H. Walker, said the move was in line with efforts by his company to strengthen its traditional role as a manufacturer and importer of consumer electronics and home appliances. The two companies said Sanyo Rentals would continue trading through its present dealer network using existing staff and
premises. The supply of Sanyo products to the rental company would be maintained and servicing would continue on the same basis
as at present. They said the involvement of Jedi meant that the structure and market shares in the television and video rental industry would not be altered.
“Jedi will bring to Sanyo Rentals considerable experience as executives within both Chase and Equiticorp have operated in the elec-
tronics and television rental industries. The investment in Sanyo rentals is consistent with the current expanding and diversifying nature of its operations.”
