A series of field days on dairy farms has been organised in conjunction with the West Coast Dairy Farmers’ Conference next month.

The field days will be held on Monday, July 16, the day preceding the conference.

Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Dairy Board, the conference will be held in the Regent Theatre, Grey-

mouth, on Tuesday, July 17. Experts will deal with subjects including soils, drainage, pastures, pasture management, feed, rearing stock, and fertility. A session on dairying in Israel is also planned. The Noel Huddleston Memorial Trophy and prize will be presented to the Dairy Farmer of the Year contest in the evening. On the Wednesday, a financial seminar open to all

farm employees and farmers will be held. This will take the form of several short talks and discussion periods on subjects including farm saving schemes, sharemilking, “experience,” bankers and accountants, stepping-stone farms and buying a farm. The venues for the field days on Monday are: Mur-chison-Maruia, Andrew Dodge’s farm; Karamea, Mike Jones’s farm, Westport, Owen Smith’s farm, Waimangaroa; Central area, Graeme Neylon’s farm, Mai Mai Road; Kokatahi-Kowhi-tirangi, Jack Havill’s farm; and Southern area, Tony Tristram’s farm, Whataroa.
