Price freeze
Sir,—When controls were lifted in 1949 prices rose so sharply that Mr Holland voluntarily granted an interim wage increase to “offset the sharp rise in the cost of living.” Our business community used this as an excuse to raise prices still more, and so started the crazy spiral of wages chasing prices. This policy is carried on by the present Government and is the cause of unrest and dissatisfaction throughout the country. — Yours, etc., M. BELL (Mrs). June 20, WB4.
