Reminder on sex issues
Women have been urged to make sure that sex education, the right to abortion, and male sexual responsibility become election issues. The Women’s National Abortion Action Campaign said that men had to be reminded that sex was as much a day-to-day issue in most households as going to work and paying the bills. Unplanned pregnancy could cut short education, lead to loss of job, and reduce family incomes to the point where mortgage repayment was simply im- *
possible. Particular attention needed to be paid to male responsibility for sexually transmitted disease, the campaign said. Male contraceptive management required minimal competence yet politicians did not have the will to promote it. Women candidates had to ensure that a sexist bias did not determine election issues, with a particular duty to ensure that fertility control and reproductive health gained maximum attention.
