Runner still going well
Captain Graeme McMurdo, is still ahead of schedule in his attempt to break the record for running from Greymouth to Christchurch.
Captain McMurdo, of the Salvation Army, spent last night at the Hanmer Springs road junction after running from Reefton. Although Captain McMurdo had been suffering groin strain it was not interfering with his run-
ning, and he had had a good day’s run, said Major Graham Waring, in Christchurch, last evening.
Yesterday was very cool and there had been a light drizzle during the early part of the run, Major Waring said.
Captain McMurdo, aged 42, hopes to break the 90%hour record for the 331 km run, set by Mr Ivan Hawkey
two years ago. He is accompanied by his wife and two friends in a motorised caravan.
Captain McMurdo planned to be in Christchurch about 7.30 p.m. tomorrow but was ahead of that schedule, Major Waring said.
Funds raised by the run will be used for the Christchurch Citadel building fund.
