Inspector fastest qualifier

Inspector, trained at Rangiora by Nat Hall, was the fastest of 14 pacers to qualify at trials at Motukarara on Tuesday. Hamy’s Pride, a three-year-old son of Lordship and Brevik in Jeff Whittaker’s Christchurch team, won in 3min 14.45, beating Roydon Butler (3min 14.55), a five-year-old brother to Roydon Wonder and half-brother to Roydon Albatross with

Mark Smolensk!; and Mill Race (3min 16.45). Others to qualify over 2400 m were Smooth Sally (3min 16.35), a three-year-old Smooth Fella-Naafi filly in Colin de Filippi’s Ladbrooks team; Paretai Nat (3min 16.45), a Nat Lobell two-year-old colt from a half-sister to Stella Frost (Imin 59.65) with Murray Rennie; Never Been Seen (3min 17.25) and Merry Man (3min 17.55). Venus Boy qualified over 2600 m (stand) in 3min 35.85. Gentleman Jack, a four-year-old by Had My Way from a half-sister to the good North Island trotter, Mister Square, trained at Rolleston by Ray Morris, won the trotters qualifying trial over 2400 m by 12 lengths in 3min 22.25. Scotch Naive (3min 24.85) and Joe Junior (3min 265), which chased Gentleman Jack home, also qualified. Cu Nim, a maiden in Maurice O’Leary’s team, was the fastest heat winner of the barrier trials, winning by four lengths in a respectable 3min 10s (2400 m Master Mood, which may contest the New Zealand Juvenile Championship at Alexandra Park on Saturday week, beat Gerry Delta and Smooth Charm in the C2-C4 heat.
