Change of driver for Westburn King

Special correspondent Auckland

The talented Christchurch colt, Westburn King, will have different drivers in his engagements at the Auckland Trotting Club’s twonight New Zealand Juvenile Championship meeting which opens at Alexandra Park on Saturday.

Peter Wolfenden will drive him in the Lordship Mobile Stakes on the first night in the absence of the regular driver, Peter Jones. However, Jones will be in Westburn King’s sulky for the $40,000 TNT-sponsored Juvenile Championship the following Saturday.

Wolfenden will drive Billbob in the big race. The combination won the Image International Sires Stakes Final at Alexandra Park on May 26. Westburn King won the Single Cash Stakes the last time he raced at Alexandra Park, on May 19.

He has since been fourth

in the Image International event and seventh in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes at Ashburton on June 2.

Westburn King left Christchurch on Tuesday by float in the care of his trainer, Barry Hamilton, and is due to arrive in Auckland today. Loveridge, another Christchurch candidate for the races for two-year-olds at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting will arrive in Auckland this evening.

A member of Clem Scott’s team, he will be driven at the meeting by Richard Brosnan.

booked to come by air from Christchurch tomorrow evening. Both will be stabled at Alexandra Park. Nardinski will be driven at the meeting by his trainer, Jack Smolenski. and Malaz by his trainer Hamish Hunter.

Master Mood, New Zealand’s fastest two-year-old miler (Imin 59.55),’ is not engaged in the Single Cash Stakes but he has been entered for the Juvenile Championship.

A decision as to whether he will start will be made early next week.

Scratchings posted for the first night of the meeting are:—
