Japanese invited
Japan will be represented by more than just its national touring team at this year’s New Zealand table tennis championships, at Palmerston North. There will also be a team from the province of Mie, between Tokyo and Osaka. Mie Prefecture has been invited to send a team to compete in the Auckland championships, as well as the national tournament. Mie Prefecture will also play a New Zealand invitation team on August 26, during the national championships, in Palmerston North. The standard of the team is likely to be sufficient to give New Zealand’s best players a thorough test. Between the Japanese national team and the Mie Prefecture players, the prospects of a New Zealander making the semi-finals of the men’s singles is slim.
