Indoor cricket gets a boost
Indoor cricket continues to flourish in Christchurch as it does in other cities in the country. The latest centre to open is the Carlyle Pavilion Indoor Cricket Centre.
The centre, which opened last week, has been established in a former warehouse in Carlyle Street and features four fully-carpeted courts. The pavilion will run on the basis of four threemonth seasons each year, with most matches being played on week-ends and week-day evenings.
Men’s, women’s and mixed teams will be catered for in both organised and casual competitions, with the emphasis on social sport for the recreation and exercise.
Based on traditional outdoor cricket rules, indoor cricket is a limited-over game played on carpeted courts which are entirely enclosed in nets. An average match lasts about 75 minutes and the scoring system always ensures a result.
