Librici wins

NZPA Sydney The New Zealand gelding. Librici, living up to his big reputation won the $75,000 Grand Prix Stakes over 2200 m at Eagle Farm on Saturday. He hung out all the way down the home straight but still held off the Namnan filly. Look Aloft, and the Riverton gelding, Riverdale, to take the day's feature by a head. Fourth home was the favourite, Port Fair, which raced in New Zealand as Beanstalk, and the other New Zealander in the race, Coober’s Gold, turned on a flying finish for fifth. Librici was in trouble even before he started when stewards ruled the lugging bit he was wearing was illegal in Queensland and would have to be changed. The horse was rushed from the mounting paddock back to the stalls where his trainer, Bill Winder, swapped the offending article
