Announcer’s move doubtful
A former 3ZB breakfast announcer, Mr Pat Courtenay, will almost certainly reject an offer by Radio Avon to be host of the station’s breakfast session. The general manager of Radio Avon, Mr Chris Whitta, said that although negotiations with Mr Courtenay were continuing, it seemed “fairly definite” that he would not be going to the station. “It is my very strong
impression that he will stay in Auckland,” he said. There was a “critical area” that the station and Mr Courtenay were not able to agree on, said Mr Whitta. Both Mr Courtenay and Murray Inglis, a 3ZM disc jockey, had been offered jobs by the station on the expectation that one of them would come, Mr Whitta said. The fact that
Mr Inglis was going to work for the station was “more than sufficient.” “We would view Muzza as being as powerful an influence as Pat Courtenay,” said Mr Whitta. Mr Inglis will begin working at the station as its breakfast announcer towards the end of June. Avon would not offer announcing jobs to anyone else because of Mr Courtenay’s refusal, said Mr Whitta.
