Condoms bob past Parlt
Parliamentary reporter Helium-filled condoms floated gaily above Parliament Buildings yesterday before the wind whisked them away and before the ceremonial opening of the session began. The demonstration was held by members of the
Women’s National Abortion Action Campaign. They released about 80 condoms, one for every male member of Parliament, before being hustled out of the grounds by the police. A spokesman for W.0.N.A.A.C., Ms Di Cleary, said in a statement that the protest was part of a
campaign “to promote the condom as suitable for everybody on every occasion.” More specifically, it was prompted by recent “moral directives from health authorities urging women to lower their rate of sexual activity to prevent cervical cancer.”
