Stored furniture given away

PA Invercargill An Invercargill man who sent some of the family furniture into storage after the January floods returned to claim it this week and found it was. gone. It had been given away to other flood victims. The furniture had been stored in a Railways goods shed,.with part of the mountain of furniture sent from the north for Southland’s flood victims. When this furniture was distributed by the Salvation Army, so, unfortunately, went the family suite, a tea

trolley, and some chairs. The man, who declined to give his name, found the Salvation Army could do little to help him. They had no receipts for the goods. “The Salvation Army offered to pay so much towards it, but I would not dare take it from them, they are a benevolent society,” the man said. He said the furniture was valued about |2OOO. If his insurance did not cover the loss, he said, he would probably make a claim to the Southland Flood Relief Fund for assistance.
