Unbeaten record
The Canterbury under-16 girls’ basketball team recently won the South Island under-age tournament at Gore with an unbeaten fivegame record. A strong zone defence played a big part in Canterbury’s success and the team was never in danger. Players to stand out in-
eluded the guards, Melody Bamberry and Rhonda Milner, and the centre, Suzie Le Crenall, who were later selected in the South Island tournament team. Canterbury beat Mid-Can-terbury, 49-13. Southland. 4933, Twizel, 88-13, Waimate. 49-24, and again Southland in the final, 57-29.
