Emancipation to visit Vice Regal
PA Hamilton The champion Australian racemare, Emancipation, will almost certainly be mated with the Cambridgebased sire. Vice Regal, this coming breeding season. This was confirmed yesterday by Jim Campin, proprietor of Chequers Stud, the home of Vice Regal. Emancipation was tentatively booked to Vice Regal late last year by her owner, Mark Hough, and the nomination was accepted by Campin in February. Subsequent reports from Sydney, however, suggested she would visit Cambridge stud sire, Sir Tristam.
But during his recent Australian trip, Campin was contacted by Mr Hough, who told the studmaster that he still wished to honour the Vice Regal booking. Campin was also canvassed by the A.R.A.B. syn-
dicate. which has raced Emancipation on lease and is negotiating for her purchase when the. lease expires at the end of the current racing season
“Apparently they are trying to buy her." Campin said. "And if they are successful they also want to retain the booking." Campin added that he understood that Emancipation would remain in NewZealand for two breeding terms and possibly be covered by Sir Tristam next year. From 24 starts, the Bletchingly four-year-old has won 19 times for over sAustsso, ooo in stakes. Among the New Zealand mares booked to Vice Regal. which is standing this year at $20,000 per mare safely in foal, are Full O’Trics, the dam of Isle of Man, and the former top sprinter, Silver Liner.
