Italy No. 2 in kiwifruit

NZPA-AFP Bologna Italy has become the world’s second biggest producer of kiwifruit after New Zealand, and ahead of the United States, a growers’ association has reported.

New Zealand has 7600 ha of land reserved for kiwifruit cultivation. Italy has 2604 ha and the United States 2000 ha.

The 28 biggest Italian kiwifruit producers are expecting the market for their produce to grow rapidly, particularly in West Germany, and they have formed a national consortium in Bologna.
