Honour for botanist
A reader in botany at the University of Canterbury, Dr David Lloyd, has been made a fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He learned of the honour earlier this week and said he believed it was in recognition of all his work during the 20 years he had been employed at the university. Dr Lloyd, who specialises in the practical and theoretical aspects of the reproduction of flowering plants, said he had been able to give a better description of their sexual expression. He graduated from the University of Canterbury with a B.Sc. (Hons) in 1959, earned his Ph.D. at Harvard University and has held visiting professorships at Harvard, the University of Texas, and the University of Massachusetts.
