Disease ‘unlikely to spread’
The case of Legionnaires Disease reported in Christchurch last week was unlikely to spread, according to the deputy Medical officer of Health, Dr M. A. Brieseman. A Christchurch woman who contracted the disease was not admitted to hospital and was recovering, he said yesterday. Air-conditioning was associated with spreading the bacteria which caused the rare and sometimes fatal disease. However, Dr Brieseman said the woman did not work in an airconditioned building and it seemed that hers was an incidental case, picked up in the environment.
