Call for Games in Greece
NZPA-Reuter Athens With the Olympics facing a fourth major boycott, the Greek President Constantine Karamanlis has renewed his call for the summer Games to be held permanently in Greece. As East Germany joined
the Soviet Union and Bulgaria in boycotting the Los Angeles Games, President Karamanlis proposed that the Olympics should be returned to the country of their birth to rid them of political interference and over-commercialisation.
The President echoed sentiments voiced elsewhere since the Soviet announcement on Tuesday when he said in a statement that the Games should be returned to Greece.
