Island bombing

Sir, — I support Bruce Meder and W. R. Sykes in their objection to any New Zealand participation in the Rimpac exercise of bombing the island of Kahoolawe. Our military authorities have apparently absorbed nothing from our large Polynesian population if they can even think of helping in the desecration of a sacred Polynesian island. We do not have to endorse the United States Navy designation of Kahoolawe as a bobbing target. If Aus-

tralia and Japan can say no, so can we. We are letting our own people down, as well as the Hawaiians, if we consent. Further, we are once again demonstrating to the world our subservient willingness to do anything that our nuclear armed ally may ask us to do. — Your, etc., ELSIE LOCKE. May 9, 1984.
