Jaycee speech contest

“Litter and the problems it creates” E the subject for thE year’s Jaycee secondary schooE’ speech contest. The Litter Control Council has sponsored the contest to $3OOO. It E open to all secondary schooE in New Zealand. The North CanterburyWest Coast area has eight schooE competing: Aranui, ChrEtchurch Boys’ High, Inangahua, Reefton, Kaikoura, Mairehau, Rangiora, St Thomas’s and Shirley Boys’ High School. Because there are only eight contestants no elimination will be held. The regional final will be on May 18 at the REingholme Community Centre. Two speakers will go forward to the area final on July 14. The national final will be held in Wellington in August. The judges for the regional final are Mr Rex Lester, a Christchurch City councillor, Mr Brian Clark of the South ChrEtchurch Jaycee, and Ms Karen Feltham of the Aoraki Jaycee.
