Astronomy school
Form 6 and 7 pupils from throughout New Zealand will spend this week at the University of Canterbury at a winter school of astronomy.
The 55 students will attend 11 lectures by members of staff in the physics department, said the university’s information officer, Mr Eric Beardsley. The school was being held
at Canterbury as it was the only school of astronomy in New Zealand, he said. The students will spend one day at the Mount John Observatory, and will visit the Christchurch Planetarium. Some evenings will be spent observing with members of the Canterbury Astronomical Society.
