Hockey win for N.Z.U.

The New Zealand Universities hockey team started its Australian tour with an encouraging 3-1 win against the Tasmanian colts’ in Hobart yesterday. The New Zealand team’s short-passing game was in contrast to the Tasmanian, hard-running, hard-hitting style. It took the New Zealand team some time to accustom itself to the Tasmanian rule interpretations. The half-time score was

1-1 thanks to a fluent passing move in the forward line which was finished by Peter Tynan. In the second-half the New Zealand team had much the better of the game and only poor finishing allowed Tasmania to stay in the game. A penalty-stroke by Tynan and a field goal, by Glenn Elliott late in the game sealed the result for New Zealand.
