College takes opening win
Christ’s College proved too ■> strong in the backs for Cashmere High School on Sat- . urday, opening its school first - XV season with a 34-6 win. The College backs produced a scoring surge in the last 20 minutes after the No. 8, Mark Hutchinson, had scored two “ tries. The Cashmere forwards .. again won praise in securing a good supply of ball. Donald Gainsford, Darren Shaw and Peter Beggs formed a solid 7 front row, while Michael . McKessar and David Paki. . combined well at the base of the scrum. Meanwhile, St Bede’s College inflicted a heavy defeat on a small but plucky Xavier • College side. Outweighed in the forwards, Xavier trailed, 28-3, at the interval, finally losing the match, 49-3.
