Rubbish dump charges

Sir,—l question the Christchurch City Council’s justification for the recent increase of the dumping charges at the Bexley rubbish dump. The increase of $1 a trailer load means that it now costs $4 to dump one trailer load of domestic rubbish. This amounts to a 33 per cent increase, which seems astronomical in relation to the ?8 a week wage increase most workers received. Now that the council has withdrawn the collec-

tion service of recyclable goods, it would seem that there should be some incentive for people to patronise the dump and its facilities. This latest increase does nothing to encourage or make it easy for people to dispose of their rubbish properly. — Yours, etc., D. J. COOK. May 2, 1984.
