Workers to stay out
PA Tauranga Waterside workers, on strike since last Thursday, decided at a meeting in Tauranga yesterday against returning to work in a dispute over award provisions on container handling on the New Zealand Unit Express vessel, Nedlloyd Marseilles. Nine ships were idle yesterday, all berths along the two-kilometre waterfront at Mount Maunganui were occupied, and three ships were at anchor in the roadstead. The port’s industrial officer, Mr Ted Newberry, said the dispute would be taken up by a waterfront industry tribunal.
