Photograph aids jewel recovery

A Christchurch woman has recovered some of her stolen jewellery after a photograph was printed in “The Press” yesterday of a cache of jewellery found by detectives under a car seat. The woman was one of about 25 persons who yesterday viewed the jewellery at Christchurch Central Police Station. None of the others identified any of their stolen valuables, said Detective Brent Thomson of the police break squad. He is still trying to trace the owners of the 150 items of jewellery, which include rings, watches, necklaces, and brooches. He said that a lot of the jewellery had been taken in burglaries in Cashmere and Cracroft during the last few $ weeks. Items not claimed after three months are put up for sale at the police auction.
