Yir Tiz realises $390,000

NZPA-AAP Sydney The British Bloodstock Agency paid the top price of sAust39o,ooo for the wellperformed former New Zealander, Yir Tiz, at the Easter broodmare sale in Sydney on Monday. Yir Tiz, a top two-year-old in New Zealand in the 1979-80 season, counted the Ellerslie Sires Produce Stakes among her victories, dead-heating with Paddy Boy. The next season, after being sold to Australian interests, she ran second to Watney in the Stradbroke (now the Elders). By Bismark II from Dreamy Jeannie, Yir Tiz is in foal to Bletchingly and has another of the champion sire’s foals at foot.

She was sold by the Sydney-based Hewitt Leasing Syndicate and easily topped other sales on the day, although the price was well below the record Newmarket broodmare sale of $700,000. New Zealand’s Ra Ora Stud was one of the biggest bidders, buying up several top lots. Glyn Jenkins, the stud’s agent, successfully bid $240,000 for the British mare, Great-Granddaughter, formerly owned by St Aubins Without Stud at Scone. The unraced mare is by Great Nephew, the sire of Shergar, from Klairessa and she is in foal to the boom New Zealand sire, Sir Tristram. Mr Jenkins also paid $170,000 for Grease Paint, the dam of the champion Sydney galloper, Best Western, which won $278,000 in prize-money, the result of seven wins, including the A.J.C. Spring Champion Stakes and the S.T.C. Gloaming Stakes.
