Seattle group visits

Further trade and tourism ties will be discussed during a Seattle party’s visit to Christchurch and other parts of the South Island this week. Seattle, in Washington State, is one of the Christchurch City Council’s sister cities. The party, which will also visit Queenstown, Akaroa and country districts round Canterbury, is being led by the Deputy Mayor of Seattle, Mr Jack Collins.

A Mayoral reception and dinner, given by the Mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay, will be held on May 7, a day before the Seattle party leaves for Sydney. The Seattle visitors will have an earlier reception on Friday given by the Deputy Mayor, Cr Maurice Carter, before Sir Hamish and five councillors return from their visit to Gansu Province in China, the city’s newest sister city link.
