31,000 cars stopped
PA Wellington The Ministry of Transport stopped 31,186 vehicles and arrested 24 people during Operation Checkpoint, a Ministry spokesman said yesterday. The arrests were for offences including absconding and refusing to give blood samples. The spokesman said 1007 drivers had been tested at the roadside, and 520 of them taken for evidential breath tests. Blood had been taken from 135 drivers.
